So I recently purchased a desktop computer from a buddy of mine and I had planned to use a smaller tv I had as a monitor sinceit had the right hook ups however I've already tried the VGA cable and HDMI cable and it doesn't seem to work the only time it's slightly worked I had the HDMI cable plugged in and it showed me the load up of the computer and then immediately cut out saying that it was not connected. Im Not sure what the problem is but I know the computer works perfectly fine its not busted in any way. Pleese help

My guess, is that the resolution is configured outside the range your monitor (TV) supports. If it is configured for 1080p and your TV is a 720p, then it would act as you describe. You may have to find a 1080p TV and connect it. Then set the resolution to 640x480 and try your TV. Work up from therein resolution.
