Hi all,

I'm building a new desktop but I'm running into issues with POSTing and with the BIOS flashback. Here's where I'm at.

1) Issue: When I try to startup the computer does not POST. It starts up and fans spin for 2 seconds then shuts down and repeats. Q-Code is 00 and the CPU_LED is on.

2) I'm currently breadboarding my ASUS P9X79 Deluxe to troubleshoot. I only have a Xeon V2 processor and HSF attached. The processor was pulled out of another P9X79 Deluxe so the processor is good and works with the board. I've tested the PSU with a paperclip and it is also good. I believe that my problem is that the current BIOS revision does not support my processor so I am trying to upgrade the BIOS.

3) I have been completely unsuccessful in flashing the BIOS at all. I have tried resetting the CMOS by removing the battery and also by pushing the CMOS button. I've then tried to flash with the renaming utility which is unsuccessful (it blinks for about a minute but then goes solid blue). I've tried flashing with the latest BIOS which is also unsuccessful (blinks for a minute but then goes solid blue). Board shipped with BIOS 0402 (last 4 on the label).

4) I am receiving no beeps from the speaker at all.

5) Specs: P9X79 Deluxe MB, Xeon V2 processor, EVO 212 HSF.

6) All of the above leads me to believe that my MB is faulty. It was working just fine previously and I've taken great care to ground myself whenever working on it. But I'm worried that perhaps I've damaged it with ESD.

What do you all suggest? Is my motherboard completely bricked? Anything else you would suggest?

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi, Firstly, flashing the BIOS again.
FAT 32 format the drive
download and unzip latest version
rename the file from Z97-DELUXE-ASUS-2012.CAP to Z97D.CAP
save it on the flash drive and connect the drive to USB port
Don't start the board, 24 pin connected and PSU switch on
Press the button for 3 sec. Led should flash several mins.

I have tried this. My USB is FAT 32. File name is P9X79-DELUXE-ASUS-4801.cap I renamed to P9X79D.cap and even tried x79D.CAP. I plugged it into the white USB port, have both the 24-pin and 8-pin connected and PSU switch on. Press and hold for 3 secs and it flashes for a bit then goes solid blue.

No worries! Yes, I did that as well. I rename the converter as you mentioned, but the light blinks for about as minute then turns solid blue (indicating that the flash was unsuccessful. I don't know where I'm going wrong. I've done a full format to FAT32. The file is in the root of the USB flash drive and is the only file on there. It is under 8GB flash drive. I just can't seem to get the bios flashing to work.

Ok, yeah. I think I might do that. Cause no matter what I'm doing, the BIOS update is unsuccessful. It's so weird.
