I can not access my external hard drive "My book 1140" in my computer

The hard drive show up in printers and devices but not in my computer. When accessing the computer disk management it shows up in the bottom as disk 1 with all the partitions but does not show up as a drive letter at the top. I have a lot of pictures on here that are important and reformatting the drive is not an option. Any help would be appreciated. I have also tried 3 other computers with the same results.

Try right clicking on any of the healthy partitions an assigning a drive letter.

I tried right clicking of the healthy partitions and everything is grayed and disabled except delete partition and the help icon.

See if you can do anything with it using Easeus partition manager. Sometimes disk management acts stupid.

This may also be a problem with too many partitions. Try right clicking on the unallocation space and selecting delete. You might also be able to remove the excess partitions using testdisk.

You can also try this:

1. From RUN, type diskpart and click OK

2. At the DISKPART prompt, type automount

3. From the Device Manager , find the device not being recognized. Mine was under Storage Devices, I think.

4. Right click on the device and choose Properties

5. Click on the Driver tab

6. Click Uninstall

7. Unplug the device

8. Plug the device back in
