Single channel kits in dual channel?

When I first built my pc, I bought an 8GB dual-channel kit (2 x 4GB) of crucial Ballistix sport DDR3 at 1600MHz. Then, in order to run game servers for myself and my friends, I (unwittingly) bought a single 4GB stick of the same memory. If I were to purchase another identical 4GB stick, would it run in dual channel? Or would I have to waste that stick and buy a new dual-channel kit in order to run in dual-channel? Wouldn't be the end of the world to spend that 70 bucks, but buying just the one stick would be preferable if it can run in dual-channel.

Thanks!

Another stick of RAM in the existing slots should run dual channel. However, there is no guarantee that the new stick will actually work at all. When you buy a dual channel kit, the manufacturer is selling them as a matched set to work together. If you piece it together, and anything is off (speeds, timings or whatever) than it will not work.

I would recommend a new dual channel kit for the piece of mind.
