In the processes of creating a fairly mid level - budget PC build for a friend, and was wondering what the community thought of my current component selection.

pcpartpicker link - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3nd7nQ

Please note, if you do make changes to the build, I am currently in Australia, and we're fairly limited with the amount of goodies we actually get here, current component list from the partpicker link in AUD is 1000, would like to keep it under that.

Thank you to anyone that helps :)

You'll have to give up Blu-Ray as well if you want to include that within your budget.

I don't have a strong knowledge of AMD AM3+ strengths and weaknesses but I believe that the VRMs on the 990 boards are better equipped for the current draw of the FX processors than the 970's, other than that it looks like you've got a good build chosen. I can only recommend a Western Digital Drive and a Seasonic power supply if they are available in your area.

Thanks alot for the build, I might downgrade the 280x to a normal 280, so I can use the price difference to include a copy of windows.

AMD will do you just fine my friend and is a great way to stay on budget. I made a few recommendations to your build that are pretty subtle. The only changes that I want to draw attention to are the 990 board instead of the 970 board, the 6300 instead of a the 6500 because it in my region is the same chip. And I chose a Western Digital blue over Hitachi, this is just the best choice for my region. If WD is more expensive where you are Hitachi drives are good platter drives too.

The memory is really whatever 8GB 1600Mhz Cas 8 or 9 memory kit you can pick up in your area for the best price. Corsair, G. Skill and Kingston are all quality memory manufacturers.
