Upgrading my Old PC Need Help

okay so im going to upgrade my old Dell XPS 410 just because its something to do and i wanna try it but i have no idea what to get thats compatible i know im getting a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Quad-Core Processor, 2.66 GHz, 8M L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB, LGA775 on tuesday but i have no idea what else to get like would getting a new motherboard work like i have no idea which will fit and etc besides that processor what else should i get just to make it not so slow just so itll run like a basic PC any and all help is welcome thanks

The reason for such upgrade is so that when you get your pc in july you wont have to change your mobo.
Just replace the pentium with an entry level i5 and then you wont have to worry about the mobo and the cpu.

yeah im going to get a new PC later on this year for my bday in 6 months but im only using this PC for casual games like hearthstone and for my elgato it runs hearthstone fine how it is just kinda slow and i plan on buying each part like a different week this is kinda my personal goal for 2015 to upgrade this so my budget is open to anything really cause this will be something i upgrade all year even when i get my 800$ PC in july

if he has a local micro cneter the g3258 and msi z97 mb is 99.00 combo deal. myself i would buy the parts all at once. intel skylake the replacment to haswell and brodwell dropping around july-sept time frame. also there could be newer gpu that have dropped plus windows 10 will be out soon.
