For example. Alice madnessreturns. All settings on max iI get constant 60fps.untilli shoot the pepper gun and look at the smoke. Drops me to 20fps. Tried all the tweaks tried and none of the video or physics setting affect anything. Even on low settings the fps drops when smoke happens in just about any game.
I have a gtx 560.
Smoke effects have been around for a very long time before my gpu was released surely it should be capable of doing smoke effects.
Can someone explain why this is happening and if smoke has hardware support?

Things like smoke, fog, or sparkly effects from magic are generally called particle effects. It takes a lot of processing power to keep track of and animate each little speck, regardless of gpu. Look in your game's options/graphics settings. Many games with a lot of particle effects have options to turn them off or a slider to control how many effects are shown. If not you may have to lower the graphics settings as a whole to address the issue.

Thats my point. I can turn the physics down I can turn down everything else. But you cant turn off smoke.

No difference between max detail and lowest detail. I get 60fps then drops with lots of smoke.

So frustrating because the game looks amazing and runs awesome with all the water globs, destructibles, wind effects etc. But soon as there's smoke it becomes hard to play and i die.

Is there any way to disable smoke with a modified driver or something?

Or should I just get a new gfx card.

Do newer gfx cards handle smoke properly?
