Hi all,
so I've decided to build my own gaming pc and with help from other builds/tutorials/guides have gathered a list of parts that I think would suit me just fine:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor - €219.64
CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooling Alpine 11 Plus - €9.90
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 ATX LGA1150 - €84.90
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 - €69.98
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM - €52.90
Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Black Edition Double Dissipation - €229.90
Case: Cooler Master K380 ATX Mid Tower Case - €46.08
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX750B BRONZE 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply - €71.57
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-14 DVD/CD Writer - €15.74

The thing is: I've already reached my budget - ca. 800 EUR / 964.24 U.S. dollars.
With OS still not included here I wanted to know if it's possible to save a couple bucks on some of these parts/changing out for others without affecting the potential performance here so I can buy an OS and later a decent monitor (other peripherals I already have). PC is going to be just for gaming with a thought of possibly OC'ing in the future.
Any advice would me much appreciated, thanks :)

Solution
CPU Cooler - That one is junk and wouldn't allow for much of an overclock. If the Hyper 212 EVO was available, that would be the recommendation. The one below is just OK, but on a budget will serve you better than the Alpine 11.
MB - The ASRock below will serve you just as well as the Gigabyte assuming you aren't interested in running multiple GPUs down the road (SLI / CF).
MEM - Same specs on the Crucial modules below for a little less.
CASE - The N200 below is a fine case on a budget.
PSU - 750w is a lot. Look toward a 550w unit. It will easily support a single "large" GPU. XFX or Seasonic, then look toward Antec or EVGA.

I know this is above your budget also, but the 970 is FAR superior to the 280x in every single way. Also, I removed the DVD/CD writer because imo it's unnecessary.
