Laptop connected to HDMI, SOME applications play sound through HDMI but some don't! Very annoying!

For example, youtube plays through, but the player I have open for the video I'm watching (called MegaPlayer) does NOT play sound through HDMI and only plays sound through the laptop. Eveyrthing else plays sound through the HDMI lead

Googling tells me to go into control panel and set my TV/HDMI as the default sound player but *it is already the default sound playback device*. So what now?

Just refreshed the video being played back and switched the default playback device to the laptop speakers than back to the HDMI, without disconnecting the HDMI, and now the sound is playing out of the speakers properly.

So one of those two things fixed the problem. It's pretty annoying as now I have to wait for the video to buffer again but better than watching the whole video with abysmal laptop sound
