GTX 660 Vs GTX 760

Hi,

I am looking for a new card fro my brother and i was just wondering if there would be significant improvements from the GTX 660 to the GTX 760 both these cards are 2GB DDR5.

The 660 is his old card. If you guys have any other recommendations then please feel free to say.

If your power supply can handle it, the r9 280 is the same price but better than both cards. How much are you willing to pay?

wait for the 960 (end of Jan perhaps?) it will shake the tree up a little in terms of pricing and performance given what the 970/980 did.

Yes, but the gtx 960 is a lot more than a gtx 760, about $250. Thats also r9 290 playing field.

we don't even know what the 960 is yet. even if it is 250, it'll push the 760 down, and might force a change in amd pricing, which for waiting for 3-4 weeks is a good deal imo.

The thing is he only has a budget of around £180 (Approx. $277.27), and he wants only Nvidia. Is there any on the current market that will be better than the GTX660?

Logically, nvidia wouldn't sell a card that is suppose to perform way better than the gtx 760, for the same price.

I would expect it to be way more than his budget, that is why i looked at the GTX 760 as it is more in our price range.

The 760 is better than the 660 not buy a whole lot but it is better. I would not buy a 660 now its much too old. But waiting for the 960 to come out is still your best bet.

OK i'll keep that in mind, i'm just worried that if the performance is closer to a 970 that the price would reflect that. His budget may not stretch.

2. that's exactly what they did with the 970, cheaper than the 770 and outperformed it.

OP - best advice wait for 960, as it will shift prices of everything in that area and it is just around the corner, all we know is that it will perform better than the 760 and worse than the 970, and will ultimately replace the 760 and therefore should be priced similarly eventually.

I will give you the regards that the gtx 970 is cheaper and better than the gtx 770, but I still cannot believe that the gtx 960, a such anticipated card, will sell for the same price as a gtx 760. And the gtx 760 prices were suppose to be cut anyways.

In my neck of the woods a 760 is around the £150 - £160 mark, I too would be surprised to see the 960's released at that price. I reckon the 960 is going to go on sale in the UK at about £200 but if it comes in at anything cheaper then I'm not going to complain.
