I've been looking around lately because i got a Samsung Evo SSD (SATAIII) but I'm running an Asus Rampage Gene II Mobo (SATAII). I know that my hard drive is running pretty much in half speed but I really want to open it up.

Right now my computer does everything I want it to do, and it does it well so I'm not looking to upgrade the platform because it would be required as I'm running an X-58 platform.

There's lots of brands out there and many of them don't get 5 star ratings for a PCI-Express add-in solution. I'm optimistic there must be a board out there with 5 star reviews and possibly also has USB 3.0 capabilities. I just want to run my stuff at full speed (I do have Sandisk Extreme USB Thumb Drives.)

I'm wondering if any of you fellas out there have extended the lives of your system by getting one of these add in boards and if so which did you choose?

If you are using AHCI mode for the bios SATA type, then you really are only missing out on a bit of SSD performance in large sequential reads and writes, your random and IOPS are fine.

I've not been real happy with any of the SATA III cards I've used and they would require clean install with the card drivers at the F6 driver point.

I have found a USB 3 card that I've used a number of and been happy with HERE that has two back connectors plus an internal 19 pin port if your case supports USB 3.
