Internet speed question?

We our right next to a Metrolan local access point and yet we are getting the bare minimum internet speed they offer. Our internet box has a straight view of the access point and the internet people cant seem to figure out why we have such slow internet. I would just like to know if you guys would have any idea of why it's so slow if we are right next to the access point and any ideas of how to get the internet quicker because just barely getting 1.5Mbps just doesn't cut it.

Solution
All those Complete Internet Repair lines achieve a better internet speed... some are indirect and related but the main fixes are the first 4 lines, and the 10th is related to security.. so check at least the first 4 boxes and press Go!...

I don't see an antivirus listed in your software installations... you have to use one because a single internet search can get an infection... it's possible that may be the difference you are experiencing from the rest of devices...

If your speed does not improve after security scans and repairing the connection, and if the average the other devices are getting, is way low, I see three possibilities:

1. the access point may be deffective
2. your routher may be deffective
3. the IP is giving you...

You're getting your internet wirelessly? A ton of things can go wrong, but if your provider can't figure out then I would just switch providers and not try to learn everything that goes into wireless internet (and what it takes to troubleshoot and fix it).

*I'm assuming we're talking about wireless internet to the house here and not a wireless router tied to a wired connection.

a) What is the contracted internet speed?...
b) Have you tried a different computer, tablet, smartphone, etc.
c) Did the technicians test the access point for signal speed

1. Scan your system for virus and malware.
2. Run "Complete Internet Repair" to reset the internet connection while repairing the winsock2
If that doesn't make a difference, it may be the Wireless adapter is having issues
3. If it's a laptop?... try a different adapter, USB Wireless adapters are very inexpensive... and if a PC try a different PCIe x1 or USB wireless adapter.

Ok we have a router that gets wireless signals from the access point and from the router we can do wireless or wired internet but they are both the same speed. Also the plan is a 1.5Mbps to a 20Mbps. Also switching internet providers is not an option because the only internet company that gives us unlimited internet (a family member works at home and needs the internet) is this one, also where we live Metrolan is really the only choice.

A) 1.5 Mbps to a 20Mbps.
B) Yes we have tried: desktop computer, about 3 laptops, and multiple hand held devices.
C) Yes and they said that it is the same speed that everyone else is getting but our speed is just much worse.

This desktop is a brand new one and i have not installed anything except the OS, Steam, Google Chrome, and a couple games. The only internet searching I have done is going to the Metrolan website and here that's really it.

I am now trying the Complete Internet Repair and will send my response once its done.

Well just looked at Complete Internet Repair (the website not the program) and the "What can be repaired" does not list a faster speed for internet if I read it correctly.

3. the IP is giving you the lower limit from the contracted range of speed... (1.5 to 20 mbps)

Check the line of sight, a 3 ft wide diameter clear line of sight is ideal, in order to avoid as much interference that you can make sure that your receiver is elevated and at least 1ft+ away from any metal of any kind. If your provider hasn't tested with another receiver then ask them to check that as well. Any other conditions are probably out of your control... other things you can check for extra info is eliminating your wireless router and connecting direct for a speed test and asking the nearest neighbors what speeds they get (if they live farther out then it's even better but keep in mind how far).

Wireless can be influenced by any electronics and most nearby wifi signals, this includes microwaves and tvs in addition to any cordless device so.... make a list and try turning them all off to eliminate those sources of interference.

If you want us to try and troubleshoot the connection for you... assuming it's the wireless as fault, we're going to need to know a lot of information most of which you probably won't be able to get. Some of the easy stuff is how far away is the remote wireless source, where is your receiver, how do you connect to your receiver and what channels/frequency are they all using. It would also be good to know your average ping to your local wireless source (external to the house) and if there's any fluctuation in your speeds.
