I have a Gateway GT5238e Media Center Edition desktop. It is now running Windows 7 32 bit. It has an 4006153R Intel (Love Valley G) G965 Viiv Motherboard. It has the LGA775 processor socket, the G965 Express chipset, and an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU E6300 @1.86GHz. I have added ram to 5.5gb.
What I need to know is if the Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q6700 @ 2.66Ghz, which uses the LGA775 socket and is compatible with the G965 Express chipset as per Intel website:

A. If not what about the Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6700. It also uses LGA775 socket?
Processor needs 1066 MHz FSB. I get "cpu full" warnings often.

Please Help. The processor is my Achilles' heel.

Solution

The center of the CPU doesn't matter, the arrangement of the pins/contacts is the only important factor, and it is indeed 100% compatible.

I am providing a link to my ONEDRIVE so you can see the bottom of the Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU E6300 @1.86GHz, spec. code SL9SA (it has the PLGA775 socket) and the Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU E6700 @ 2.66GHz. Note that center arrangements are different.

Are you certain that they are interchangeable? I really need to upgrade.
