Monitor resolution problem

I recently upgraded to a new computer running Windows 7 and my 8 year old 30 inch Dell monitor will only run on very low resolution. (sorry, I don't remember what it was?) I have since hooked it back up with my old computer (also 8 years old) running Windows XP and it is crystal clear at 2560X1600 resolution.
I don't know if it is a graphics card issue, drivers or something else? The old computer has a low end Nvidia card (for today) and the new machine has an Intel HD graphics 4600 card. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Solution
I suspect that win7 doesn't know what your monitor is, you may need to create a custom resolution. On your old machine find the resolution settings, and then use these to create a custom resolution in win 7. Explore win7 first to find out what settings you need to know.
