How can I pick up a weak free WiFi signal on my laptop?

The city in which I live has free WiFi. Unfortunately, it is very weak at my apartment and won't stay connected. Is there anything I can get that will help me get a better signal?

Honestly, I don't know what I want. I was hoping you could solve my dilemma. So these devices will pick up the free WiFi signal better and transmit it to my laptop? Please don't laugh. I'm a beginner.

it actually makes your own wifi hotspot, which if you connect your laptop to it in its connections tab thingy or wherever you connect to internet, it will have better internet because it's closer and probably has better wifi than your apartment's free wifi. So the closer it is the better the signal. Or if you want the best signal you could hook your laptop to it with an ethernet cable if your laptop has an eternet slot/hole I forgot what it's called :)

yes there is get a radiolab antenna it will bring in wifi for up too 5 miles they use this on ship and private boats to bring in free wifi go to http://radiolabs.com the cost of the antenna is around 260.00
