NEW(ISH) PC shutting down every time, troubleshooting help needed

Something's defective here, but I have no idea what (besides that it isn't the HDD).
Just built my first PC a couple days ago:
CPU: FX-6300
GPU: SAPPHIRE R9 270X
MOBO: MSI 970A-G43
PSU: Corsair C550M

Computer posted fine the first time, I installed Windows, CCleaner, AVG, Malwarebytes, and HWMonitor, that shows how long this thing lasted. Shut it down after the night, came back, worked fine, dl'ed a Steam game, used HWMonitor to see some temps I thought were extreme. My CPU peaked at 81C, but quickly reduced to roughly 50-60C according to HWMonitor. Shut it down for the night, got up today, plugged the monitor back in and shut it on. Problem? It doesn't want to stay on.
I can start the PC, all fans, including the CPU cooler and PSU fan power on. Between 30 and 40 seconds later, every time (tried four times) it shuts down. I can get to the Windows 8 startup where it tells me it didn't start correctly, but no further before it shuts down. I tried disconnecting the monitor and peripherals and found the same problem. (Oh joy, it's the internals...)
What confuses me is this: My temps were high in my newbie opinion, but the damned thing started 3 times, ran for a combined seven or eight hours, no problems but the CPU temps.
I checked the fans and cords on the inside of my case, all are still connected to the PSU and Motherboard.
I then (after grounding myself),looked around for any dust or debris that could be obstructing airflow, lo and behold, nothing.
This was a rather expensive project, and while the GPU, CPU, and MOBO are under warranty I would like to determine what has gone so horribly wrong here. I have no idea what to check before I rip this thing apart and just RMA all the parts, which I would hate to do because of "restocking" fees.
AND so, I've come to the most knowledgeable forum I've found for PC's and I ask:
"What defective part allows a PC to power on completely, run for nearly a minute and then fail?"

EDIT: Interesting notes:
The PC will run much longer if I do not engage Windows 8, it will immediately shut down when I click "restart PC" if I make it to the screen or continue to Windows 8.1 from their system startup repair. This would cause me to suspect Windows is faulty, but I have used this system extensively without problem, could it be the CPU throttling up, overheating and shutting off, or maybe asking for power and the PSU shutting down?
My Rosewill case came with some LED fans. They immediately dim. I do not know if this is normal or if this is new.
The video to the monitor shuts off seconds before all the LEDs in the case shut down and the power "click" is heard.

Solution
Did you apply thermal paste between cpu and cooler? It sounds like you have an overheating problem.
The reason it worked well in the beginning might be the lack of insralled drivers causing everything to run at safe speeds?
In any case 81c seems high for a peak temperature.

I used the stock processor, it came with thermal paste on the base, but agree the temperature is high. I was afraid I would have to rip this thing apart. :(
I will just get some Arctic Silver, remove, reinstall the cooler and see if the stock paste was shoddy quality. Will update when Arctic Silver arrives, until then, thanks, Bootcher.
