couple of questions about upgrading my gtx 550 ti

i was thinking of getting a r9 270 but then seen there was a r9 270x and was wondering if there is any difference between them and also what the nvidia equivalent would be to the 270

so basically there is no difference between the 270 and 270x also i only planned on spending $150-$170 im assuming any new video card coming out wont even be near those prices

what about the 280 is it worth spending a little extra for one or should i just stick with the 270 also does it matter what brand i should be looking at i know some brands have better cooling and maybe warranty stuff but other than that i dont see a difference
