I've just completed my first build and I'm trying to load windows 8.1. I purchased this new along with the rest of my system. I get a message saying my product key doesn't work. Bought from newegg so I assume it's not a bootleg.

Verify caplock is not on
Verify you're not typing a 0 instead of O, B instead of 8, etc, etc

I would contact newegg and tell them about the problem you're having.
also contact Microsoft and see what they say. Tell them whom you bought the program from.
Are you sure you typed the numbers in correctly?

this link may explain why you can't install Windows 8.1 on your machine. it says that 8.1 is an upgrade, to windows 8.0.
I'm surprised Newegg didn't tell you this.
I would contact them and make them give you your money back or give you the windows 8.0 that you need.

You can buy 8.1 as a new install.
