Hello I just purchased a gaming laptop (Lenovo y50) which would replace my old gaming pc. When I got my new laptop I was surprised that it has a built in mic. After a while I realized it was really bad. I dug up my old pc and found a mic. Its a Logitech shotgun mic. I bought It maybe two or three years ago and it has been working perfectly fine. It has a pink end which I am guessing means that it is a mic. Next to my headphone jack is another jack. I have no idea what this jack is. Its not color coded so I can't be sure what it is but I'm guessing its a microphone jack. When II plug my headphone in I get a notification that its pluged in. When I plug my mic in I don't.

The laptop likely has a combo jack that is like the ones that are used by cell phones. You would need to get a 4 post to 3 post audio cable converter.

Check the manual for your laptop, should explain things.
