System specs:
CPU: FX 8350 @ 4.0 Ghz
Cooler: H100i
Mobo: ASRock Fatal1ty 990fx Killer
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz
GPU: nVidia GTX 970
Monitor: NEC 19" @ 60Hz & Vizio 39" led smart tv @ 120Hz (but windows reads as 75Hz) I dont know why.
Storage: Samsung 850 PRO 120GB SSD (Windows 8.1 & Apps) & WD Blue Caviar 7200rpm 3Gbps (Games)
PSU: Corsair CX750M

I have been getting low gpu usage in all games. Is there somebody that can help? I am totally at a loss! I feel I have tried everything. Somebody please help. My brain is like mush from thinking about this for the last month! LOL. Also has soaked up all my time trying to defeat this issue.

I also am RMA'ing the FX Chip and Fatal1ty 990fx Killer mobo. For some reason I have been getting random freezes that I have to hit the reset button to get out of. Usually freezes when I walk away from the CPU for a while. Also freezes sometimes when I plug in a USB device into the front of my case. Also cant figure out this issue.

I still have a few days to try to figure this one out. If not will be sending it back to newegg.

I have the Intel i5 4690k with an ASUS Maximus vii Hero motherboard on the way. Should be here by Tuesday at the latest.

So I do know going with that option is far superior to what I have now for gaming in most cases. But I would like to figure out why this board and chip I have now is freezing every now and then. And also would like to know what is causing the low GPU utilization. A lot of people claim the FX 8350 is not a bottleneck for the GTX 970, but I'm starting to think it is a HUGE bottleneck in a lot of games. Anyone have an opinion on this?

I have some snapshots of GPU usage in Far Cry 4 but I don't know how to post the pics. Can someone tell me that as well. It says something about a URL. Do I post pics to google drive or something similar?

Im not sure on FarCrap 4 because i hate ubipoo, but what other games are being limited? Can you try Crysis 3 or Battlefield 4? As these will really max the GPU out, FarCrap is horribly optimized as far as i know as UbiPoo have no idea what they are doing in the pc gaming industry.
Ive got a 8320 and a R9 290 and there is no bottleneck at all, its 100% fine usage wise.

Thanks for the reply. well They have done a pretty good update recently on Far Crap LOL. Very minimal stutters now. only when driving. Very close to Far Crap 3 performance now. But they still have a little work to do.

I tried again with settings on ultra and was getting 98% usage with drops to the 70's and 80's here and there. But lots of Stutters though. On medium I have maybe 70% usage but 58 to 60 solid FPS all with v sync (on) by the way. The game looks terrible with v sync off. looks like 30 fps when getting like 90 to 100 fps. while turning. it has that ghosting look while moving.

Like i said before, thats Ubisoft not you, nothing you can do as far as im aware, they are awful at porting pc games, was the same with Farcry 3!
They probably wont fix it as it will be mostly the game itselfs issues, but have you got the latest Nvidia drivers??

Yes I do have the latest drivers. Call of duty advanced warfare also has low usage as well. Well all these games have low usage with v sync on. I don't understand why? but I do need someone with gaming experience to help me understand things a little faster. LOL. All games have low usage does not matter which one it is all of them. I am sick of this 970!!! I thought it would be a great card but it has sucked since day 1.

I appreciate your responses. If you think of anything let me know bro. Thanks!!!

Just going to add, Vsync maxes your fps to your monitors refresh rate, to increase frame stability, and if you turn it off, it should go higher, the usage problem isnt anything to worry about, as the card just wont be needing to be used, had the same issue with my r9 290 a while ago!

What CPU are you using? I am switching to the i5 4690k and ASUS Maximus VII Hero. I just sent back the FX chip to new egg earlier last night.. My Intel chip will be here hopefully when I get off work today.

I watched a Tech Yes video on You Tube that showed coupling a high end graphics card with the FX 8320 didn't do well. He said if you wanted to use the AMD better to go with a mid range card. He used a 780 ti lightning on both the 8320 and 4670k. The 8320 did horrible compared to the 4670k especially on the minimum frame rates.

I did enjoy my 8350 but I was getting bad minimum frame rates in a lot of games and causing the microstutters. I pray to god the 4670k and the Maximus Hero save the day when it arrives!!!! I will keep you guys posted on my opinion between the two. Like my opinion makes a difference LOL.

Keep me posted man! Although I did find this https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/155/geforce-900-series/ It seems many many people are having the same problems as us.

Ok so far only had this thing up and running for a little over an hour. I haven't checked my usage but played Wolfenstein the new order. And man was it Smoooooooooooth. Also no screen tearing at all!!!!!! I could actually enjoy the game! Omg the difference is night and day so far. The cut scenes were also smooth as well. I will try some more. Just sucks I had to format and reinstall everything because of the board swap!!! But so far so good bro!

Also playing Far Cry 4 on ultra settings no god rays, smaa, Never drops below 60fps. On the fx 8350 it was dropping to the 40's and stuttering very badly.

Anyone with a GTX 970 I recommend the i5 4690k. Very smooth gameplay compared to the 8350. With my experience with both CPU's BY FAR the better chip is INTEL! And it really is only $50 dollars more. That $50 is WELL worth it.

New System specs:
CPU: i5 4690k
Cooler: H100i
Mobo: ASUS Maximus VII Hero
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz
GPU: nVidia GTX 970
Monitor: NEC 19" @ 60Hz & Vizio 39" led smart tv @ 120Hz (but windows reads as 75Hz) I dont know why.
Storage: Samsung 850 PRO 120GB SSD (Windows 8.1 & Apps) & WD Blue Caviar 7200rpm 3Gbps (Games)
