So im upgrading from a Acer aspire X3990 and i have a few questions

My old system

CPU i7 2600 3.4 ghz
GPU GT 530
PSU 300W

New system

CPU i7 2600 3.4 ghz
GPU EVGA GTX 970 superclocked
PSU corsair builders series CX 500w 80 plus or EVGA 500w 80 plus certified

Will everything work ?
Im reusing the MOBA im wondering if it supports my new gpu

Im thinking of saving a bit on budget wich psu should i get?

Also is there any other good around 60 buks cases that will work and does the case ive choosen work?

Is there anything that wont work that i need to change?

Also i have some arma 3 specific questions

I want to know what fps im going to get i expect 50-60 fps but might be alot less than expected, since arma 3 is cpu heavy i want to know if i should consider to overclock my cpu ( i know its not k series but still it is possible) and if i overclock is there risk of my CPU getting overheated or something?

If you see anything that wont work with my setup or something to do with how my setup handels arma please leave a comment

Solution
just check the boards cpu compatibility list on what ever one you choose to be sure your chip is listed and ready to work out of the box , and it all looks fine after that

good luck
if you using one of these older chipsets you may want to look in to that some ??

or with acer this may occur

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked or fixed'' bios and may not allow you to change certain hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warranty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you really need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. and a lot of guys here say ya ya ya when is really no no no...it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that wount post after you installed it as most find out. then get told its your psu and you spend more and end up right back where you are now, but its up to you good luck..

you got to know the the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do custom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatibly . the bios is custom made for there design and just for the parts they authorize to be used on there computers there only guaranteed to work as is out of the box as you bought it ,..

??? that's the trick .. best to do is look around form your exact model and hope you can find what will work and what will not or your stuck with the old you buy -- you try --- and hope it don't make you cry..

you see eaven with custom boards the 970 may not work out and there suppose to be open to full upgrading

or do as that one guy with the acer and take it to a shop and let them worry about it .. if they get it to work 100% pay them if not just say thanks for trying and leave with all your money

then cats sell computers and don't reall care about you upgrading them unless it on there list of parts .. if your computer anit cutting it then they got that brand new up to date better one to sell to you

but you never know you may stick it in and it fires right up ???? roll them dice and hope you don't get snake eyes [with any card ]

Ehm can i ask you may try to find out if bios is locked, i know you dont have any reason to really but it would really help me out please also my pc is 3 years old and the MOBA is suppost to be very good

changing MOBA ???

any way it all your call and all your risk like I said there are no guarantees anything will work outside of what acer sold it to you with out of its box ..

that's al there is to it

from the acer forums [ not your model but it could apply??]

acer motherboards have been incompatible with the gtx 700 series and now 900 series cards,

I got it now, yes you can change the motherboard out for a ''real'' one but you will also need a new copy of windows to go with it .. its a tough call to make on what you need to do .. when its all said and done you will think it would of been better just to do a nice new custom build in the end [opinion]

if you were to get the card and find you cant get it to work that's about where you'll be at anyway??

I do infact have a copy of windows 8, so changing the MOBA will help with the whole bios lock thing, and say i would get a custom made pc the rest of the parts what would the cost and in that case can i reuse my hardrive?

As i just checked i only need to change moba everything else should work just fine

New setup is going to be:

Case: corsair carbride series spec-01
Motherboard: a decent one with PCI 3.0
CPU: i7 2600 3.4ghz
GPU: gtx 970
Hardrive: 2TB
Ram: 16gb
PSU corsair 500w 80 plus
Operating system: windows 8

Is there any good MOBA that will work and is cheap witch PCI 3.0 ?
And will everything else work now?
