So about three months ago I built my own gaming computer and had the intention of streaming. Unfortunately I (my dad I'm 15) has a wireless network setup that is unable to provide a fast enough connection to do so.

Details
- Router(also the modem): Actiontec Pk5000
- I'm directly under the router one floor not connected to LAN.
- Often have both of my parents using it while I'm on my computer.

What can we do to speed up my connection to a speed where I can stream.

Thanks,
Danny

Sorry this is such a dumb sounding post had to write it quick.

Yes, you can get a second router to set up as an AP (check the sticky). I would recommend dual band at minimum if your wireless adapter supports it, and AC would be a better choice still. That should help streaming performance, especially if your parents stick with their connection to the Actiontec.

You haven't stated the subscribed speed from your ISP, so consider your overall performance is also dependent on good bandwidth on the incoming connection.

The PK5000 appears to be a fairly old G-standard router. If you happened to get a dual band N or AC adapter in your new PC, you should definitely consider getting a newer router. The wireless on your Actiontec is not going to cut it for browsing and video streaming.

Another option is powerline adapters, which can provide a fast and stable connection.

Thanks guys,
This was more just to prove to my father that we need a new router or to let me wire my computer. Every time I bring up the issue he tells me the internet works perfectly and he doesn't want issues with work. So my next question would setting up a second router as a second access point do anything for me?

Thanks,
Danny
