AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad-Core 3.4GHz with R9 270X or HD7870?

Hello, I'm thinking about buying a new video card and from research I've heard that HD 7870 was a good gpu to use with my phenom II x4 965 and was also advice to try r9 270x.

my specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad-Core 3.4GHz
ASRock 970 Extreme3
G.Skill Ripjaw 2x 4GB
hec XPOWER780 600W(780W Peak)
Asus HD 6670

Will something like a MIS R9 270x be way too much for my current build?

I'm looking for something that is less than $200.
Thanks ^-^v

The R9 270X is a little less expensive, and edges out the HD 7870. I recommend the R9 270X.

  2. That processor, once OCed to 4GHz can support up to a 760 or r9 280.
So you should be able to support those with no bottleneck, or only a minor one.

Out of the two cards, the 270x is the refresh model of the 7870, so I would recommend the R9 over the 7870.

The 965 is still kicking, and takes an OC well.
  3. Your PSU will be pushing it with a PhII x4 965 BE OC'd and a r9 270x/r9 280, so keep that in mind. The 7870 is a pretty decent GPU, but the 270/270x are slightly better options, if they are similar price.
  4. I would go with an r9 270x/r9 280x unless you find a great deal on a hd 7870/7950. That motherboard also supports the fx series processors so you could upgrade to a fx 6300 or fx 8320. Both of which are faster and better for overclocking.
