Hey guys :)

A friend of mine wanted to upgrade his GPU, CPU and PSU. This is what he has at the moment

CPU: AMD A10-5800K APU with Radeon HD Graphics
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6670 (2GB)
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-F2A75-D3H (FM2 SOCKET)
RAM: 8GB SCRONTIUM 1600MHZ
Powersupply: 360W Cooler Master Powersupply
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB (7200 rpm)

Im not really sure how old those parts are but he's been wanting to upgrade to be able to play World of Warcraft, League of Legends and also some steam games. He does not really want to play on ultra and that his budget is around $800 - $1000 NZD. He was looking at the Asus R9 270X ( i suggested the 750ti as it was a little bit cheaper) I also suggested the i5- 4690 for his CPU and its around $300 ish NZD. But i think the parts he wanted and the ones I suggested were not really compatible with the motherboard he got right now. Lastly, we do not know if we also have to upgrade his PSU if he does end up getting a 750ti or an R9 270X.

Is it possible to re-use some of his components to play WoW on lets say, medium settings without any trouble and keep the budget at under 1k NZD? Or should we discard all the parts and just make a new rig from scratch? Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) and thank you for reading all the way through this point, ahaha felt like i wrote a book.

He just want to play LoL, WoW and some steam games so I do not think he would be OC'ing or adding on another GPU in the future :)

Solution

You can set the partpicker to New Zealand,if you do will you see that this is over budget.
The cpu in the current pc isn't that bad,he could even try some overclocking.Maybe first only upgrade the gpu+psu and see how it performs after that.
An ssd is also a nice addition.

Two other options for intel,

or

looking what he wants from games should these do fine under budget.I don't play WoW so can't speake from experience, but it seems like a cpu hungry game and with that is the first option probably the better.

the 750 ti is fine with the psu but the r9 270x requires 500 watts amd 2 6pin connectors. only amd apu processors are the only one compatible with your friends mobo so if you want to upgrade to intel u nid to change the mobo too. or if you want fx series you need am3+ mobo
