Hey

I am just wanting to know if this PC upgrade would work and how it would run with gaming with my current computer specs.

Here are the parts I am looking to upgrade into my build
Intel Core I5 650 Processor, Duel Core, 3.2Ghz
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Core-i5-650-Processor-Duel-core-3-2Ghz-/161546721472?pt=AU_Components&hash=item259cef58c0
AsRock H81M-DGS R2.0 Intel 4th Generation LGA 1150 CPU Micro ATX H81 Motherboard
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AsRock-H81M-DGS-R2-0-Intel-4th-Generation-LGA-1150-CPU-Micro-ATX-H81-Motherboard-/171431171157?pt=AU_Components&hash=item27ea181455

I have no idea if these two parts would both be compatible for each other and for my computer. I am on a very low budget of $150 and these are one of the cheapest PC parts I could find on Ebay. (If you have any other ideas to replace these parts that I have chosen, please tell me but the total budget has to be around $150 - $250). I also don't know how well these parts would function when gaming.

Here is my current PC build that I am trying to upgrade
Intel Core i3 550 (CPU)
Gigabyte Technology Co (Motherboard manufacturer)
H57M-USB3 (Motherboard model)
4GB DDR3 Corsair Ram
2133.4MHz (NB Frequency)
Nvidia Geforce GTX 660
1.8TB Hard drive
64-bit Operating System

Solution
No the parts are not compatible. The motherboard is new and the CPU is compatible with your current motherboard.
i5-760 seems like a good enough upgrade for your current motherboard.

You don't need a new motherboard, all you need is a new cpu. Anything below the i5-760 will not be a noticeable upgrade.
Here is an i7 that will be a huge upgrade over that old i3.

Oh, I didn't know that Intel Core i5 CPU's would be compatible for my motherboard. I was told that if I were to upgrade to an i5, I would have to buy a whole new motherboard because the socket differs.

So if were to upgrade to an I5 760, do you know how it will affect my performance? Will it make a huge difference performance wise while I am gaming. I looked up the i5 760 on Ebay
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Core-i5-760-Processor-8M-Cache-2-80-GHz-/201254986347?pt=AU_Components&hash=item2edbbb626b Is this the right CPU that you are talking about, just wanna make sure that I am putting my money on the right part.

Also in upgrading to an i5 760, will I have to make any other changes to my current PC? Like adding or replacing ram or buying a new GPU?

Hey man, thanks for the suggestion. So that i7 processor you linked, that is compatible with my current motherboard right? So I don't have to buy a new mobo?

Also, in buying the i7 860 Quad Core, will it make a significant difference when I'm gaming. Like FPS wise?

Thanks

Hey man, the ebay link you suggested for me said the listing has ended and the item had been sold. I searched and found another ebay link with I think is the same CPU you suggested. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/INTEL-CORE-i7-860-PROCESSOR-LGA1156-2-8-GHz-8MB-CACHE-CPU-SLBJJ-/291344150672?pt=AU_Components&hash=item43d576f090 Can you confirm if this is the right one? Just wanna make sure I am getting the right CPU for my computer.

Sorry about the delay. There have been some server issues with the site that has prevented me from answering. Basically, weather it's a core i3-540 or core i7-860, they all use the socket 1156 so they are all compatable with your motherboard. Yes, i7-860 being sold on eBay you posted is compatable. I recommend making sure your bios is up to date. Good luck.

Thanks!

Yeah, Tomshardware has been down for a bit in the last few hours, I kept getting static 500 whenever I went into the forums
