I just built a system less than a month ago, and was able to boot up fine. After it was assembles, I easily spent at least 2 hours playing with it and getting the OS installed. After leaving it alone for a couple of weeks (only change was the addition of an LED strip inside the case) while waiting for a new monitor, I tried booing it up again and nothing happened. I pressed the power button, and the machine boots up for a fraction of a second, all the lights go on and fans spin, but only for a half a second and then it shuts off. Help me!

My build:
>AMD Athlon X4 760k
>MSI A78M-E35
>Sapphire Radeon R7 260x
>16GB Crucial ballistix sport
>1TB Western digital black
>500W Corsair PSU

Solution
Make sure all power cables, DIMM's, and video card are installed/seated properly.

Slide case power switch connector off from motherboard which will expose two pins for booting. Using a screwdriver blade or similar metal object short the two pins to boot the computer.

If computer boots and runs then the case power switch is faulty. If computer still has issues try the following.

Use another PSU (at hand or borrow one). If computer boots and runs then the original PSU is faulty.

If computer still doesn't boot (properly) try only one DIMM at a time and in different slots also if necessary. If computer boots/runs then DIMM and/or slot is faulty.

If issues persist, then try other DIMM's (at hand or borrow them). If computer boots/runs...

If computer still doesn't boot/run then the motherboard is probably faulty.
