Iris isn't that bad, at least it isn't 3000, that really sucked. For intel's first attempt at making decent onboard graphics, its surprisingly good.

Well, usually modern laptops will "graphics switch" between cards, iris being a primary, and your GTX gets kicked in to gear when the computer needs the power, I don't think this is happening on your machine, try downloading nvidia drivers and make sure it recognizes the card fully.

Iris is the best thing intel has and its not awful. As long as you compare it to everything else intel.

What you have to consider is, why on earth would you put iris in a laptop, then also put an 840m in it?? That should tell you something. Cause an 840m is crap for graphics. So... hes got two bad choices.. no wonder it lags.

It uses graphics switching, so when your PC isn't plugged in it is power conservative on Iris and if you need more power, the dedicated swings in to help. Apple has been doing it for years with Intel GMA chips being if your just web browsing or word processing and ATI/Nvidea chips when you are playing a game or video editing.

He has a laptop, you cannot add a graphics card unless you have a Thunderbolt 2 port, which is not very common.
