I have a HIS HD 5770 gpu with a failing fan. I see that Amazon has the ARCTIC Accelero L2 Plus VGA Cooler for $20.

Is it worth replacing the fan or should I just trash it and pony up the $200 for a newer model?

I"m currently running off the built-in graphics on my Intel Core i5 4690K that's on my asus z97-a board. I'm running two monitors (computer monitor and HTPC). Haven't done any gaming, but with my new build I might.

Suggestons?

I'd drop the Arctic cooler onto the HD5770, it's only $20 and you'll keep the card, even if you upgrade later you'll still have the HD5770 as a backup.
If you're not gaming there's no real need to upgrade but for about $200 the upcoming (Jan 22nd release date) GTX960 is likely to fit your budget and be a substantial upgrade, but check the reviews first and expect supply to be limited for a month or so with high prices and no discounts as a result.

No point if you ask me. The GTX 960 is coming in january 22nd, so that's apparently gonna be $200. I'd wait till then. Or the gtx 970 is an option.

I went ahead and installed the Arctic Cooler - what a pain but it significantly lowered the temperature of the HD5770 to under 40 degrees.

Probably a wast of money as my Asus z97-a has Intel graphics that would serve as a backup and I'm purchasing a new card anyway. But good practice for me. Now I know I can handle itty-bitty screws. :)
