Hi guys, so i have another thread up at the moment discussing the whole windows issue with changing from AMD to Intel so i wont go into detail with that but the basic story is that i hate my FX-8120 and so i am switching to an i7 4790k next month. My question to you guys is do you think that the 4790k paired with the MSI Z97 Gaming 7 mobo and Corsair H100i Cooler will bring a long awaited heartbeat back into my system instead of holding it back like my FX-8120 is at the moment?

My PC Specs are:

AMD FX-8120 (will be switching)
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 (will be switching)
MSI R9 290x lightning OC'D
1x Sandisk 125GB SSD
2x Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD's
16GB Corsair DDR3
EVGA 750w G2 PSU
NZXT Phantom Enthusiast (2x 200mm, 1x 140mm, 3x 120mm Fans)

Thanks for your opinion.

I have a very similar setup. I run the i5 4690k on the MSI Z97 GD-65 gaming motherboard. They have since discontinued the GD series and have renamed it to the Gaming 3,5,7,9 series. Mine is the same as the Gaming 7 you are considering. I love the board and it was very easy to work with in the bios. Overclocked like a dream as well, while staying cool at the same time. People have reported issues with the killer nic, but I can confirm that whatever the issue was has been fixed now. You may have to download the driver from the site instead of using the driver on the DVD, but I doubt it. I had all the drivers loaded onto a flash drive before I even installed Windows, lol.

all i can say is...... amazing, that will be amazing mate, very good choice, i have the i7 4790 none k with only a h55 and my temps are sweet, idle between 19-23 and on load around 44, yours will perform even better.

Thats good to hear man, the 4790k will definitely be OC'd along with the lightning, hopefully it will be unstopable when im done ahahaha! i bought my lightning a few days ago and my cpu is just holding it back despite what everyone said online, its barely pushing 60fps on BF4 everything ultra when it should be running at about 100-110fps, now this might not seem like an issue but with paying so much for a tank of a card like this one im not going to let its potential be held back by a shit cpu/ mobo setup. I've heard only good things about the 4790k with the Gaming 7 and i just wanted to know what everyone thought about it with the rest of my system :)

Do you have the radiator and fans mounted internally or one outside and the other inside? reason being i want to keep my 2x 200mm LED fans in the top of my case, wondering if the rad/fans will catch on the ram or mobo heatsinks

What case is your build in? i have seen the h100i installed internally in the phantom before but im still wary about space

Judging from images of your case online it seems to have quite a lot of clearance between the top of the case and the top of the mobo, my Phantom probably has about half the space, although i do have quite low profile RAM so fingers crossed!

I was reading up on your question and I too have the same setup.
Intel i7-4790k
Msi Z97 gaming 7
Evga gtx 970 ftw
Corsair h90.
Im not sure if i did the settings correctly but at idle my cpu temp is 35c which from what you described yours to be mine is high. Any suggestions on settings for the h90?
