Please Help! Unexplainable Lag On Most Games

So my rig is good and should be able to play most games (i5-4690k,gtx 970,8gb ram) so why in the world can I not play battlefield 4 on high? Why are there huge lag spikes on farcry 4 every 3 seconds? Why do I only get 30 fps on unturned? Why can I barely play minecraft shaders at 60 w/o optifine? Help!!! Did I build something wrong? I can rebuild if that is the case! Just please help and thanks in advance!

everything is detected, BIOS is up to date, drivers are all up to date, all power cables are firmly in

is your hdmi/dvi/vga/dp etc plugged into your motherboard? or your GPU?
