I have an Alienware M17x R3 laptop that I ran DBAN from a CD to wipe the drives from. But the optical drive doesn't have a disc tray and there is no operating system, so how do I get the CD out?

make a Ubuntu usb stick on another computer and have the laptop boot off it, once inside you will be able to eject the cd then. Its always a good idea to keep a bootable usb stick laying around just for said occasions.

Short of doing that you would have to rip the laptop apart and then pull the optical drive apart to get the drive out. From the images I could find of the drive there is no effect button or a little whole that you can pock at to get the drive to open.

optical drives have a little pin hole on the front of it. this is for exactly this. take a paper clip, straighten it out and push it into the hole. it may take a little bit of force but should push easily. this will manually eject the cd from the drive.

you may have to look close but it should be there somewhere. i can't say i have ever seen one without this little hole in it so it should be there.

edit: if it this one http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=M5F6V&mfgpid=208444
you can see the hole on the left side of the drive in the pic.

What I've got is the HL-DT-ST DVDRWBD CA30N. It's just one of those that sucks the CD in. There's nothing on the outside of the computer that I see indicating a hole to put anything in.

I'd rather not do the Linux thing, but if I do, how do I do that?

Well I feel like a moron but a while ago I had to do a fresh install of windows and some of those keyboard buttons didn't work after that because I never found the correct drivers or something, so it never even occurred to me that there was an Eject button there, because I use them so infrequently.

Thanks for simplest solution.
