I want to live stream video games with a elgato, would a Alienware alpha either i5 or i7 processor be able to do this at a high resolution?

if its twitch, the quality is based on upload speeds. the i5/i7 will be able to stream, but the quality is not based on the computer as much as it is with the internet speeds. for 1080p, you will need at least a 5mb upload.

my personal preference would say go with an i5 or i7. they have more processing power than AMD, but amd is typically cheaper, and can stream games fine as well. whichever you choose will be up to you, but i would recommend not going with alienware as they are overpriced prebuilt machines. you could save quite a bit of money going other routes.

cpu/gpu have some effect on streaming, but nowhere near as much as your internet connection. i ran an older phenom II to stream, and it streamed things just fine. the internet connection itself determines how the stream looks when it is broadcasted. as i listed before, use the speedtest link, and check your upload speeds. if it is under 5mbps, you wont be able to do 1080. 3mbps, might get you 720p.

if you upload speed is low, you would have to lower the bitrate of the uploaded stream, which is what lowers the actual quality. the goal is to have it stream at the native resolution that you see, but is not always possible if your internet is garbage.
