GTX 980 or R9 295x2? On a 1080p monitor.

What would you guys go for? The r9 being so much more powerful but, not actually noticeable to the human eye in most scenarios, and also bad in games without CF support, yet the 980 not being AS powerful but it will still dominate in those games without CF support. I'm very confused, since the 980 i'm looking at has the highest factory core clock out of every single GPU (1.3GHZ) but also other drawbacks.
What would you guys go for? Is 970 SLI the best option of the lot? Tell me what you guys would go for, and I generally want the best performance, reliability and stability in one. I know all I actually need is 1 970, but I want my pc to last a LONG time.

It depends on what you called maxed out. For me i play BF4 a lot and i would take a 144hz 1080p monitor over a 4k 60hz monitor any day. Games are becoming more demanding so fast these days its hard to tell.
If your aiming for 60fps 1080p then i think it should get you by 2-3 years on ultra settings if you don't go crazy with AA.

I know 295x2 seems amazing, but me personally i would have to recommend going SLI 980's instead of that 295x2.
especially if your dropping that kind of money.

I run a msi golden gtx 970 and they are indeed HIGHLY impressive

On a 1080p... you can use a 970 and have no issues. If you were to SLI them you'd get great performance and save some money. Without upgrading your monitor to anything past 1440p, I would stick with dual 970s at most. Even 980s in SLI have a tough time with 4k and 60 fps.

On a 1080p monitor each one will be overkill. A single R9 290 or GTX 970 will perform the same as far as your brain is concerned, meaning the difference between 60 fps and 100 fps is not noticeable. As gaming is shifting from 1080p to 1440p or even 4k resolutions, at 1080p you will last the same with any of those cards.

I would suggest getting two GTX 970's which will give better performance than the R9 295X2, less heat and lower TDP.

For 1080P a single GTX 970 is enough but if you have the money and just want a awesome PC then SLI away.

Also what CPU your gonna use?
