I have two HDDs and one SSD that I wanted to install for better performance. I have a Samsung 850 pro 256GB. I understand that to get the best performance from the SSD, I need a SATA 6gb/s cable, but I do not know if the cables for hard drives and SSDs are different. I am just trying to get the best performance off of the SSD. And also, how do i identify if my motherboard has a SATA 3 port? I have it open and is it possible to physically identify it?

Well the problem with doing that is I bought my computer from a friend back in 2011 and he did not give me the manual.

Okay I'll check. If I do not have a SATA 3 port, would I be able to get a SATA controller to add a SATA 3 port? I am not sure if that's even possible, but I am guessing it is.
