Hey Everyone,

I recently purchased a Netgear "NightHawk" R7000/AC1900 Wireless Router. The thing works beautifully and allows me full control over it, 110% better than the previous verizon actiontec router i was using.

However, I've been experiencing issues whilst trying to connect to the 5GHz band with my USB Adapter i have hooked up to my Desktop PC. I can connect no problem using my surface, but for whatever reason the adapter (stated in the title) will not connect (Win 7 and all the latest drivers and firmware, just in case you were wondering); Netgear's site claims the adapter has 5GHz capability, though I've always been skeptical of any corporations statements.

For security reasons I would rather not disclose specific details regarding my current setup though i would be happy to discuss them through private messages. Additionally, I am very Tech. Literate so please give as much detail as possible! ^_^

Solution
Your adapter is 802.11ac, and has both 2.4 and 5 GHz radios in it. Your adapter should be able to detect the 5 GHz network.

Make sure there is not a later version of the software to install for the adapter. If that does not work, send it back to Netgear for a warranty exchange.

It's weird, when i add it as a network in network and sharing center it sees it as no bars (Though that's what it's like on my surface too; I have it as a hidden network, but setting it to public wont do anything). So while It can "See" it, it can't connect to it.

5GHz is not enabled by default, The band preference setting is set to none atm, though i did set it to 5GHz preference to see if it would have any affect. It didn't =/

This one to be specific. I bought it about a year ago, that's not really old enough where it would cause a problem would it?

Yeah after hours of tinkering i finally got to the point where i reinstalled the Netgear Genie software and for some reason i was then able to access it through use of the software....
