My ext hard drive will not access the data when i plug it in to any usb port on any computer. It wants to format the drive first which i know will delete all the data. It says "the file or directory is corrupted or unreadable". I tried error checking in Properties, Tools but it said Windows couldnt access the disk.
I also downloaded Piriforms Recuva and Kernel but both wouldnt access the disk and Kernel for Windows data recovery said" the partition is damaged". Is there a way I can recover my data? Thankyou peterc1160

Stellar Phoenix maybe.
You didn't mention what filesystem is on it. If its ext3/4 or something linux uses, Windows can't read it. Theres programs for that on Windows, Paragon extfs for example.
If its FAT/NTFS, I would recommend Stellar Phoenix.

Hey peterc1160. You could also try some of the solutions from the thread here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
Also this error might be fixed with the chkdsk command by using "/f" and/or "/r". But note that this might also corrupt some of the data. You could also try opening the drive with Linux Live CD/USB to see if you can access it this way.

Hope that helps.
