For some reason I still get low fps on Arma 3 Multiplayer. I was thinking that my CPU is causing me to get low fps.

It probably is, but even guys with i7's are having issues with Arma 3, especially in multiplayer battles. It's just badly optimized or has some code issues that need to be resolved. That's not the best cpu choice either for demanding games that have high cpu intensive loads.

Unless you want to buy a new motherboard as well, to pair with an i5, you might consider adding a good CPU cooler and just overclocking it up to a more respectable level which will help somewhat. Kind of depends on what motherboard you have as to whether overclocking is a good idea or not.

Certainly be much cheaper, although it won't gain you as much performance, than going to a new cpu and board.

Not to sound stupid, but you do have your display connected to the GPU and not to the motherboard right?

Honestly though, I've talked with several, at least five, other members this week on Tom's that have similar issues, with frames good and normal, very high sustained values, on other titles, but in Arma they drop down to like 20fps in multiplayer. 60-80 in multi on other titles. Upgrading, even to an 4790k i7, might not fix the issue.

ill explain what i did and how much an overclock helps in frames for arma3, i have a 970 as well, i5 4670k and in singleplayer maxed out i averaged 45-60fps and it bounced around alot and rarly hit 60fps, overclocked the cpu to 4.4ghz and average around 77-90 with a absolute low of 65. in multiplayer it depends on the server fps, the altis life server i play on(asylum) it stays around 35fps.

That's a definite improvement, for a much smaller investment than a full upgrade. Not going to see that kind of improvement with an FM2 chip that's already at 3.9Ghz, but you'll see some. 35fps isn't bad considering the problems a lot of folks are having in MP.

yea its unfortionate how cpu dependent this game is. another good tip, keep raising your graphics as high as you can untill you start lossing fps(you should be able to nearly max it out) untill you start losing fps, the more you lower your graphic settings the more load it puts on your cpu.
