AMD FX 8320 Clocking Issue

I just got my new CPU and installed it. I noticed a few problems such as crashes and no better performance then my old AMD 8100 CPU. So when installed I was told to look at CPU-Z because DxDiag said it was clocked at 2.8Ghz. CPU-Z Indeed says it is clocked at 2.9Ghz. The default clocking for the 8320 is 3.5Ghz. Can anyone help me fix this issue?

You are correct that your chip should top out at 3.5 GHz, with a 4 GHz turbo.

Does your motherboard support this processor? Do you need a motherboard bios upgrade?

Also try running a processor intensive task, like HyperPi, and seeing if the clock speed goes up.

Yes my motherboard does support it, I double checked that before buying the CPU. I have no clue what a motherboard bios upgrade is maybe I do. I have opened at the moment Google Chrome, Spotify, Steam, Skype, Sony, Vegas Pro 12, League of Legends Client, Origin Client, Photoshop, and Arma 3 (Very CPU intensive game). And even then CPU-Z Shows the Core Speeds rapidly changing from 2912.30 MHz to 2912.82 MHz

That can't be possible, I looked it up many times to ensure I was buying something that worked

Actually he is correct. The GA-78LMT-S2 only supports Bulldozer-based FX processors like your previous FX 8100. Most likely you accidentally looked at the CPU Compatibility list for a different motherboard with a very similar name like the GA-78LMT-S2P or GA-78LMT-USB3

I'm amazed your PC even boots with an unsupported processor. It was common for older generation of motherboards and processors to work without official support but all the newer ones I have used tend not to even boot up.

Only way a Vishera FX CPU would work is if you gave us the wrong motherboard model.

Just great, how am I supposed to return this now? I have already installed it. Not to mention I used a prepaid card to buy it, how would amazon give me my money back

Ok well, thanks for the help. I feel really dumb because I looked at a model that had like 1-2 letter difference then mine. But whatever what can I do. I have no way of actually upgrading my computer I see.

Like digitaldoc said, try to return it. If you can't get your money back try to see if you can get it exchanged for 8320e which may be supported depending on the Revision number of the motherboard. So I would check if your motherboard is version 1.2 or older.
