Friend's computer won't start up without old graphics card in it?

Hi, okay, so my friend has a bit of a "janky" computer; It's a repurposed server. So, he bought a GTX 750 TI recently, and after installing it, everything still worked fine. He was able to play games and such at the level that the 750 TI should. His system was using the correct card. But, he just tried to remove his old card (plugged into one of his PCI-X slots), because we're trying to use Hackintosh (with legally obtained OSx), and that's a whole other story. So, anyway, when he removed it, and booted up his computer, the computer just displayed a black screen. He's rebooted it many times now, and sometimes he can get to the BIOS menue, but then it will blackscreen randomly.
I'm not entirely sure what card or server he has, I know the server is Dell, and the card I believe was Intel.
Not sure if there's enough info here for an answer, but thanks for any help you can give!

1: He is installing the new card properly, as Windows recognizes and uses it.
2: We're talking about GPU's, not CPU's
3: We're both 15, and don't exactly have money for an expert. And it's not really that big of a problem, he would just like to use Mac for some of the programs it offers.

You know, I'd like to, but I can't do that. I know there's an answer to this, and I'm trying to figure it out myself as well.
