Is this a good gaming build? Any upgrade options?

Solution

No, your i5-4460 will not bottleneck a GTX 970. I would not replace the i5-4460 for another couple of years unless you plan on getting a new cooler and start overclocking.

It's all good, but you're paying extra for a motherboard good for overclocking, and you have a CPU that can't be overclocked. Get a H97 motherboard instead, or an i5-4690k CPU if you want to overclock.

Other than that, I would suggest SSD's and an aftermarket cooler if you care about noise.

Edit: just realized that you already have built this, so disregard my advice to get another motherboard, whats done is done. Look to upgrade GPU later this year.

Hi,

You don't really need to upgrade this system too much, it should handle just about everything. If I was to recommend anything I would recommend either a Samsung or Intel SSD (Samsung 840 EVO 500GB) is cheap at the moment with the release of the 850.

And *if* you really wanted to you could upgrade the GPU, but like I say, not really a major need. Either a GeForce GTX 780Ti or GeForce GTX 980.

Edit: SSD is a must in my opinion. You'll notice one hell of a difference!

Thanks guys. If i wanted to upgrade the graphics card later, could I SLI my GTX 760 with a say GTX 970? I know that I would have to get a new mobo, but is it possible? Also, would the CPU need upgrading to something like a Core i5-4690K? Thanks in advance.

Edit: I (might) overclock, if it would help me, but I'm a noob about these kinda things :/

I'm not saying ssd is not important
But if you run on budget i would select gpu over ssd
if we play game for 6 hours per day loading time should be 10 mins or so
With ssd it will reduce to 5 mins
But if you upgrade gpu u will get 60+ fps instead 40 with your current gpu
So choice is yours!
For me i always think about fps i receive

Do you guys think that if I upgraded the graphics card to an Asus GTX 970 then the processor would not bottleneck or something? Sorry if I'm saying this wrong, I'm new to the PC building scene.

Edit: I basically mean that would there be a drop in performance from any other component if I upgraded the graphics card.
