Build advice

Hi all,

I could use some build advice. The long and short: I’m looking for recommendations on a mobo, case, and cooling options.

The rig does not need to be mobile. A small form factor is desirable, but not necessary if a larger form factor makes cooling/maintenance easier/less expensive. Quiet is better than loud. Function trumps style, but it’s nice when things look nice. I do plan on overclocking, and will probably wind up somewhere around 4.4.

In terms of motherboard performance, I am looking for something on the order of the ASrock Z97 extreme 4.

Build at present:

CPU:
i5-4690K http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54690k

GPU:
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 (or comparable) http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn970g1gaming4gd

Memory:
G.Skill sniper 2133 (8GB) http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f317000cl9d8gbsr

Storage:
Seagate barracuda 1TB HDD http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seagate-internal-hard-drive-st1000dm003
Crucial 256GB SSD http://pcpartpicker.com/part/crucial-internal-hard-drive-ct256mx100ssd1

PSU:
SeaSonic M12II 620 [?] http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-m12ii620bronze

Anyways, once I start building imaginary computers my imagination sort of runs away with me. I’d appreciate any advice and suggestions, including voices of reason if I’ve gone horribly awry somewhere.

The r4 has better airflow and more space, plus it looks better in my opinion. cases really are up to the consumer and they want out of a case. You pick what you like and you will be happy with what you get. It doesnt matter what anyone else says.

so far looks like a good build. Cases are kinda personal, everyone likes something different. My go to case use to be Lain li but recent years I've used a fractal design R4 an XSPC H2 with most resent Corsair Carbide Series 200R on my build in my sig.

cooling I would look at a cooler master hyper 212 evo, noctua D14, or noctua D15.

Once again im a huge Asus ROG fan I have 4 build ranging from a socket 1366, 2) 1155, and 1) 1150. all my ROG boards OC very well and have never given me any issues so ive just stuck with them.

Thanks BT14 and faalin, this is very helpful. With current pricing, the 200r would let me shave a little over $40 off the price. Would you point to any difference between the R4 and the 200r that you think is important to consider?

faalin, I was just checking out the Lian li PC-B16, which looks great. As a comparison against Fractal's R4, how would you assess the two?

I am doing roughly the same build with the i5 4690k and i got an asrock extreme4 mobo which is really nice, has aluminium mobo coolers along with 3 pcie x 16 ports for graphics cards and it was only about 100 bucks giver or take. I got a diy pc case gamemax-w case which has 3 slots for hdds while also have 5 120mm case fans pre installed. also has a vent on the bottom of case where the power supply is mounted.
