I'm upgrading my motherboard from an ASUS P5G41T-m to an ASUS Z97-AR. Furthermore, I'm replacing my old Intel quad core cpu Q8400 with an i5-4690k. Will I need to buy a new copy of windows 7? My current copy is in fact the OEM version.

Thanks

You will need a new key if you have the OEM, you can try calling Microsoft and explain your situation to them and they will usually provide a unique number after you install Windows with your old key, you should still be able to install with the old key but won't be able to authenticate with it immediatly. Their support number is 800-642-7676.

Most of the time, you can re-activate with the existing product key. If it fails, you will be given a toll-free number to call and listen to a robo-activation procedure. Most times it will allow a new activation with a MB change if you answer that you do not have the OS installed on another PC. At worse, you will be directed to a live rep to explain the situation. Again, most times they will allow you to use the OEM version on your new MB.
