Hey guys, I was just wondering how far can I safely overclock the awesomely awesome i7 5820k. Do you think I could safely get it to 4.0 ghz? Now for the i7 4890k, Could I safely get that to 4.7 ghz?

For i7 5820K, a Vcore of 1.35 volts, you can get it up to 4.8GHz Stable.

For i7 4890K, at a Vcore of 1.3 Volts, you can get it up to 4.6GHz Stable

(At least for me. I did lots of overclocking for my friends.)

Ohh, so it wasn't a joke. So, for your CPU, I suggest leaving your Base Clock at 100MHz (by default) and crank up your Multiplier to 45 and increase your Vcore (Voltage) to 1.25 Volts and try Stress Test for about 2 ~ 3 Hours. If successful, increase your multiplier up one by one and stop about 4.8 GHz If stable.

lol, except for I have no idea how to do all that :) And I actually don't want to be that high, I'm a bit limited on power, my system currently use a max of approximately 1350 watts out of my 1600w PSU, I want something like 4.0 or 4.5.

first of all, its easy to do that (ill help u) second, your power supply is plenty for it.

Reboot your system (while rebooting, repeatedly hit delete key on your keyboard) ---> You entered the BIOS ---> click F7 or click Advance Mode ---> go to AI Tweaker Bar ----> Click Profile and click XMP (if you have it. If not, skip this step) ---> Go to Multiplier (if should be on Auto) and change it to 45 and change the menu to Sync All. ----> Scroll Down to CPU VCORE and click on Manual ---> Write 1.25 and hit enter. ---> Go to EXIT menu and click Save and Exit. --> It will show the summary of what you have changed and click YES --> Reboot your pc and check.

Yeah, that sounds pretty simple, thanks for explaining it step by step, it was very helpful, I'll try it in a bit, you should deserve a double best answer :D

Well, I just went to BIOs to the places you said to go, but some things are different for me, I'm pretty much stuck after the AI tweaker thing, I don't see multiplier anywhere. There's an extreme tweaker tab next to advanced.

Anyway, you would not see anything that says Multiplier, you probably would find something like this:

1-Core Ratio Limit: Auto
2-Core Ratio Limit: Auto
and so on.

You enable Ratio Synchronization Enable (by default) and change the 1-Core Ratio Limit: Auto --> 48.

Done.

You change the first one only and put the menu above it to : Sync all Cores and it'll automatically make all core into 48.

Well, I did what you said, but no luck, do I have to manually increase the voltage or something? Because it's only at 1.123V or something, it is on sync all cores, all of them are set to 40 and nothing changed except, still says 3500MHz, 35x ratio, and 1.123V on the right. My mobo has way too many features, not that I'm complaining, lol, just hard to find things. Is there something else I have to do? Also, my RAM is at 2400MHz now? :??: was at 2133MHz, not that it is a bad thing again, I like 2400 anyways, 2133 is such an odd number. I didn't exactly touch anything about RAM except for changing the AI tweaker or something from auto to XMP, that's it. But anyways, let's get back to the CPU matter :)

What you do is you also set the voltage manually to 1.25 volts, and your clock ratio (multiplier) to 40, and then you must click SAVE and Exit. If you just reboot without saving it, it won;t do it. For your ram, you should be able to find a tab called DRAM Frequency and change 2133(if it is set to that) to 2400.
