Disappointed With My Rig's Performance

My Build: AMD FX-9370, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, Thermaltake Toughpower TPD-0750M, Rosewill BLACKHAWK-ULTRA Gaming Super Tower, ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z, G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB, MSI R9 270X GAMING 2G, PNY Optima SSD, TSSTcorp CDDVDW, and some Toshiba hard drive. I'm not getting great frame rates like I wanted to, so I'm assuming another mid range gpu would be the most cost effective way to boost my performance. Do you guys think buying a better psu with another r9 270x would be the best way to go for the money?

Look under description, maximum TDP.
It's also something I have known for a while btw, not something I just looked up. Honestly, if you ever push that cpu hard, like prime95 or even close, you put your cpu into thermal shutdown real quick as temps will skyrocket. I would definitely not advise OC with that cooler either.
I looked up what comes with the cpu, its OEM tray, with clc or without clc, and the clc is definitely a better cooler even if a little louder, but it's definitely not a standard crappy AMD aircooler.
If you could simply return the R9 270X, for less than the cost of two 270X's, you could easily buy an R9 290 or R9 290X and have more than double the performance without any drawbacks that may be associated with CrossFire.

what games are you playing? i got i5 4460 and r9 270x playing farcry 4 on ultra settings and i get 60fps stable. i guess you want more frames than that?.. just sell your r9 270x and get a gtx 970 or r9 290x.

Everyone I talked to seemed to think I was on the higher end with my build with the exception of my gpu and cpu cooler. It's like a >$1000 build. But anyways, I get almost 60fps in most games on high. My case has like 8 fans so I'm not sure I can get a 290x without a new psu.

Yeah nothing amazing, but differently not bad. I was thinking about getting another 270x because I think I'd have to get a new psu to run a higher end gpu anyways. So I could maybe save some money by buying another mid range gpu instead of getting a higher end one.

use this to calculate your required wattage. it is a tip from linus

http://coolermaster.outervision.com/

even a 500 watts certified psu could run a 280x. and besides a crossfire 270x requires more power than a single 280x or 290x.

Case fans don't draw that much power, most of them are several watts at most.

Also, if dual GPU has the same performance as single GPU, it is ALWAYS better to go single GPU, as every game would benefit from your more powerful single, while not all games would support Xfire, and in some rare cases, actually perform worse with Xfire enabled.

If it is possible to return the 270x and get a 290 or 290x, I would highly recommend doing so.

I think you are confused. A single 290 or 290x will require less power than 270x CF. It requires 200 more watts than a single 280x, and a single 290 or 290x does not require 200 more watts than a 280x. You likely forgot to take the x2 off the chart when you changed GPU's.

They are solid coolers, and still better than what comes with their CPU's.

According to their site, it is supported by that CPU, and they say nothing about wattage. http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-212-evo/

for a $30 budget cooler, yes, they are extremely good and much better than normal stock units, either amd or intel, but the fx 9370 is still a 220w TDP cpu, and the Hyper212 EVO is still only a 180w cpu cooler. The fx 9370 had 2 options when it was introduced, with or without cooler, a $100 savings without, and amd's explanation was that many ppl who would buy that particular processor already had plans for OC and large coolers. The stock cooler for that unit was a h80i equivalent CLC, and was actually quite good at the job, although I guess many preferred to drop the extra $100 savings on a h100i or other large cooler, so it was worth not adding the extra cpu cooler.

I'm not exactly sure what the cpu comes with now, I haven't actually looked at that cpu in a while, I find the 8320 a much better value at much lower wattage.

Where are you getting the info about it being a "180w" cooler. I am searching everywhere in every review, and no where does anything mention about it being only a 180Watts. In fact, no one mentions wattage. They just compare how well it works. Seriously, give a link please.

i did say that 270x crossfire requires more power than a single 280x or 290x. sori if you got confused by my sentence. but really the gtx 970 is the best bang for the buck price wise and power efficiency wise.

Anyways, good to know. Though I don't suspect I'd ever buy one of these high OC'ed AMD Chips anyways. Intel is where it is at if you want high performance.
