Hi everyone,

I'm having a lot of problems with a network that I've (poorly) build. A friend of mine is sharing his 2MB ADLS connection with me and a friend of his. I've no networking training. I just figured out how would work:

uc

I'm using Windows in my PC and the network sometimes connects, sometimes shows 'Limited connection' and no internet. I've no complain with the speed, just the stability of the connection. My friend's PC always has a steady connection to the internet.

And the 20m cat5 that I use are actually two 10m wires connected with an extender, none of the wires is using a standard wiring scheme.

Just after holidays, I notice some water coming out of one of the ends of the wire, I haven't checked, but I think that maybe the extensor lets the rain water going in, although is sealed with tape.

    ■ Is possible to make this work?
    ■ If so, How can a build a better network?
    ■ Do I need to replace the devices? (I just replaced the 100MB switch with a new one)

Thanks a lot, my friends.

Solution
Here is a corrected copy of your network picture... Keep cable runs to 100M or less. (each cable- up to 100M)
If the router has 3 or more ports you can ditch the switch. Plug directly into the router.
if you want wireless in your room, turn off DHCP in local router(s) and plug cable into a port Not the WAN jack. leave DHCP on at first router
