First build problems pc started smoking

I checked my power supply and it works. But when I hook up the 24 pin connector into the motherboard the pc won't work when I try to turn it on. Can anybody help me?

So smoke came out from the build, from the inside of the PSU or from the mobo itself? the one that failed is clearly the issue, if it was the PSU it's possible that it has also damaged the mobo.

The fact that the PSU fan spins doesn't necessarily mean that the PSU it's ok in it's entirety, only way to find out (without risking any other components) is by testing it with a multimeter, here's a guide on how to do it:
