Yesterday I replaced the graphics card and power supply in my HP Pavilion 500 PC Series.
I upgraded to: Sapphire AMD R9 290 TRI-X OC, Corsair 750watt power supply.
The power supply works great but the graphics card not so much, I have Windows 8.1 which I heard is not compatible with AMD's Catalyst software which seems to be true as after installing the catalyst from the DVD that came with the graphics card, AND the catalyst on the website
(yes I tried reinstalling it).
This is what happens, If I boot the computer with the graphics card connected to my power supply the computer will not display anything out of the graphics card, nor the integrated graphics
(which are enabled). So are the drivers completely necessary? I mean how do they expect you to install the drivers if you cant even get the card to display any output to see what your doing.
And if I boot the computer with the graphics card's wires unplugged the computer boots from integrated graphics.
So would I have to downgrade back to Windows 7 to use my new graphics card? Surely that can't be the case, but right now I'm so desperate for anything to work.
Please help, any advise is appreciated!
