I have tried to connect my Xbox One controller to by PC, but Windows will not acknowledge it at all. I have tried every USB port and several different cables, not sure what to try next.

I did try that, I should have said.

I've tried every USB cable I own in every USB slot. I think it's charging, but Windows wont detect it at all.

Even though MS Win will reconize the controller and download basic drivers I have noticed that certain directions on the thumbsticks won't react as fast as it should so I went and downloaded additional support drivers from MS and it corrected the problem. I think Cccactus issue is driver related since they have tried several different cables/USB ports.

Reading an article about using the Xbox One controller for PC...

"Another problem is that due to the change in the way the cables work, you'll also need a special micro-USB cable to plug into the controller. And take special note: it's a micro-USB cable not a mini-USB cable. If you try to use the latter it won't work."

It says 'exclusively for Xbox One' I guess that was the problem. I swapped it with someone who owns a Xbox One and the new one works.

I don't know if it was faulty or are there genuinely two version of the same controller(?)

I think they make two versions of the same controller. I had the same issue with a 360 controller where my friends controller (from the system box) wouldn't work but then I went to a local store and checked out the boxes and in the pc section they labeled some of the controller for "xbox & PC". I'm sure its just a money grab by MS as messed up as it sounds but not suprising.

I got it fairly cheap, maybe it was old stock from before PC support was added. If you're buying online there's no way if your controller will work on PC or not.

True. I would still recommend downloading the drivers as well just to ensure that all the functions of the controller will work for the PC.

That is interesting, I never ran in to that problem. The controller that I'm using came with my system. I'll check out the box and look for some model numbers. Did you update the controller firmware using your xbox console? That is the only other thing I can think of, unless there really are two models.

The controller I'm using now that works was one that came with a console. The one that didn't work was one I purchased with a play & charge kit. They are both model 1537, so it probably has something to do with the firmware. It's not my Xbox One, so I can't test anything with it today.
