I am almost clueless about all of this choosing individual components because I fear I might end up assembling something that won't perform well or that I might overspend.

Budget: $1000-$1100 (60000 - 65000 INR)
Country: India
Purpose: Android/Web Development(main purpose), Gaming(not a hardcore game), Video Editing(just a hobby)

My current plan
Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K Processor (Am I going for a too-much high end processor which I'm never going to utilize fully? I don't know all this overclocking and stuff or why people do it?)
Motherboard: I am clueless. How to choose a good motherboard that works well with the CPU, graphic card, storage and RAM I choose? Need help!
Graphic Card: ZOTAC NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (ZT-70601-10M) 2GB
RAM: Corsair 1x8 GB DDR3 or 2x4GB DDR3
HDD: 1TB (seagate?)
SSD: 120GB
OS: Will get to this later
Cabinet: ??????
Cooling system: ????
PSU: Corsair VS550 550 Watt PSU
Display: 21.5-23 in (don't know anything about what kind of display is best)

My doubts:
1. Which motherboard should I choose?
2. How do I know if my PSU is enough to power my build?
3. Should I buy 1x8GB RAM or a 2x4GB RAM?
4. OS: please refer to this thread I started today
5. Cooling system? How do I decide how many and what fans should I buy?

If you want to search for products in my country, I'd say use these two website:
http://www.amazon.in/
Flipkart

Thanks a lot in advance. I am doing this for the first time and I am worried about spending huge money and getting it wrong. Please do guide me.

let's take this one thing at a time;

for video and other multimedia, an i7 is justified; but in almost all other cases, it is not value for money; i'd recommend a non-overclocking i5 haswell;
here is a link with some recommendations from tom's; even though it is for gaming cpus, it kind of covers general use as well;

www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106.html

motherboard: if you dont plan to use a couple of features such as ssd caching and RAID, then you get the budget range B85 for around 5k, otherwise get the the consumer range H87, around 8k; gigabyte, asrock and msi are all good around here, asus is better, but costly;

power: there are online power calculators such as below to help with some wattage approximation, so you can buy the correct SMPS; you just feed your components and it gives out a recommended wattage

http://www.coolermaster.outervision.com/advance.jsp
http://www.corsair.com/en-in/psu-finder

RAM: there are a certain advantages of using a dual channel so i'd suggest you get two sticks of same capacity fromsame manifacturer; just remember to get 1600 MHZ and not above or below it; also getting 4 instead of 2 does not add any peformance benefit; 2 sticks is the perfect number;

cooling: for your needs, i think a box of (four) 120mm fans is good enough; but it depends a lot on your case choice;

lastly, you have come to the right place, so relax and ask as many questions as you want before you make a purchase;

here is a reference build;

12,000 Intel I5 4440 Haswell Processor
06,000 Gigabyte B85M-D3H/Asrock B85-Pro4/MSI B85M-G43

06,000 2x4 GB 1600 MHz RAM from Corsair/GSkill
05,000 Samsung Evo 840 120 GB SSD
04,000 Seagate 7200 RPM 1 TB desktop HDD
08,000 Dell s2240L 21'5" full HD monitor
02,000 Logitech Keyboard/Mouse/Webcam

66,000 half lifes contemporary PC

Notes:
- You can downgrade to a H81 to save around 2,000 but it comes with a pcie 2.0 which is non ideal for your graphics card
- You can stagger your puchases for the peripherals such as speakers/webcam etc. if it is going over your budget
- There are newer cpus, and boards, but these ones are not that different from the newer ones and so are better value for money
- prices are indicative only and buil suggestion is a reference only
