my dell inspiron 1501 with xp wont go into pc restore mode when i press ctrl f11, or any other key combination ive found on the web. i found a post talking about the recovery partition so i went into my computer disk management and found only the basic c drive partition. the hard drive on this computer was replaced about a year ago and im guessing they wiped the recovery when they installed new hard drive or is it located somewhere else. Also i have a dell inspiron 1520 with xp that has 4 partitions listed below. can i copy the recovery one over from the 1520 to the 1501 and make it work that way.

1520 partitions

partition basic FAT healthy (EISA configuration)

partition basic FAT32 healthy (unknown partition)

(C) basic partition NTFS healthy (system)

MEDIADIRECT partitiom basic FAT32 healthy (unknown partition)

1501 partitions (the computer in question)

(C) partition basic NTFS Heathy (system)

Hi

I found any dell XP recovery disk would work on any Dell PC desktop or laptop of the XP era , although sp 2 or sp3 version is better than sp1 sp1a or sp0

When sata drives became popular latter Dell XP disks were modified to include sata and raid drivers

It should be relatively easy to buy or borrow a original Dell XP recovery cd

Is yours home or pro ?
You also need to go to the Dell website for the drivers for sound/audio , network, Wlan , graphics etc.
